A K-TECH Make lubricated tapered plug valve is a quarter-turn rotary valve that uses a conically tapered plug to regulate or stop fluid flow. The distinguishing feature of this valve is the injection of a special sealant (lubricant) between the seating surfaces, which minimizes operating torque, prevents leakage, and protects against wear.
Key Design & Working Principles :
Tapered Plug:
The plug is machined with a slight taper, matching the internal cavity of the valve body. This geometry allows the plug to be tightly seated and easily unseated.
The Sealing & Lubrication System:
Sealant is injected through a fitting on the stem using a grease gun. It travels down internal channels to form a continuous film between the plug and the body.
Quarter-Turn Operation:
A 90-degree rotation of the operating stem moves the plug’s port from fully open (aligned with the pipeline) to fully closed (perpendicular to the pipeline).
Pressure Balancing:
Many large industrial tapered plug valves feature a pressure-balancing design. This uses line pressure via internal passages to counteract forces at both ends of the plug, preventing taper-locking (where high pressure wedges the plug too tightly into its seat, making it impossible to turn).
Advantages :
Bubble-Tight Shut-Off:
The injected sealant fills any micro-gaps, providing exceptional sealing integrity even in severe services.
Low Operating Torque:
The lubricant film drastically reduces friction between metal-to-metal seating surfaces, allowing smooth operation despite high line pressures.
Corrosion and Wear Resistance:
The lubricant acts as a barrier, protecting the internal metal surfaces from abrasive media and chemically aggressive fluids.
In-Line Maintenance:
Sealants can often be replenished while the valve is under pressure and in service, extending its operational lifespan.
Common Industrial Applications :
Oil & Gas:
Upstream extraction, transmission pipelines, and high-pressure manifolds.
Refining & Petrochemical:
Handling hydrocarbons, fuel gases, acids, and viscous liquids.
Process Industries:
Slurries, mud, sewage lines, and chemical processing where non-lubricated valves would quickly wear out.
